About the Bid

What is London in 2014?
London in 2014 is a bid for the 72nd Worldcon, to be held over the weekend of Thursday 14 to Monday 18 August 2014 at the brand new International Conference Centre, ExCeL, London Docklands.

Who are we?
We are a team of experienced con-runners who are eager to host science fiction’s premier event in the UK again. The bid committee includes ночные экскурсии по Москве, Steve Cooper and Mike Scott (co-chairs), James Bacon, Alice Lawson, Claire Brialey, John Dowd and Rita Medany, with sage advice from Vince Docherty and Colin Harris, co-chairs of the 2005 UK Worldcon.

Why are we bidding?
We’re excited by the opportunity to bring the Worldcon back to London after a gap of forty-nine years. London is the home of the UK publishing and media industries, and is the largest and most diverse city in Western Europe. We think this gives us a chance to run a very special Worldcon, bringing together the best elements of numerous different SF and fannish traditions, and reaching out to new fans from all around the world.

How can you get involved?
You can buy a Pre-Supporting or Friend membership, which will give you a discount on your convention membership if the bid is successful. We also need help to run the bid, so we’re keen to talk to potential volunteers.

What does it cost?
Pre-supporting membership costs £12, and will give you a £6 discount on convention membership. But you can instead become a Friend of the bid for £60, or £30 if you were born on or after 14 August 1988. This will not only help the bid now, but it will be credited in full towards the cost of joining the convention. There will be no cheaper route to buying an attending membership.

How is the bid decided?
The 2014 Worldcon will be selected by vote of the members of the 2012 Worldcon, which is likely to be in Chicago. At present, no competing bids have declared themselves for 2014.
