How to Get to ExCeL From Outside the UK

London has a very extensive public transport system, and there are generally several ways to make any given journey. Here are our recommended options for getting to ExCeL from the main points of entry from outside the UK. Note that these routes and prices are valid as of September 2011, and may change before 2014 — https://experience.tripster.ru/experience/Moscow/20768-biblioteka-imeni-lenina/.

From Heathrow Airport

  1. Take the Piccadilly Line of the London Underground from Terminals 1, 2 & 3, Terminal 4 or Terminal 5. Get off at Hammersmith and walk across the platform to catch an eastbound District Line train. Get off at Westminster and transfer to the Jubilee Line eastbound (down several lifts or escalators). Get off at Canning Town and transfer to the Docklands Light Railway for a train towards Beckton. Get off at Custom House (for the ExCeL west entrance) or Prince Regent (for the ExCeL east entrance and convention centre). Total elapsed time: around 90 minutes. All transfers can be made without using stairs or escalators, but the platforms are not all at the same height as the carriages, so getting on or off some trains will involve a single step up or down. Cost: £5 (for cash) or £4.50 peak/£2.70 off-peak using an OysterCard (which can be purchased at the station at Heathrow). You can save a change by staying on the Piccadilly Line to Green Park station and transferring direct to the Jubilee Line eastbound, but that involves a long walk through a tunnel.
  2. Take the Heathrow Express train service from Heathrow Central, Heathrow Terminal 4 or Heathrow Terminal 5 to Paddington (note that from Terminal 4 you have to change at Heathrow Central). Take the London Underground Bakerloo Line southbound from Paddington. Get off at Baker Street and transfer to the Jubilee Line southbound, and then proceed as above. Total elapsed time: around 75 minutes. Cost: £16.50 for the Heathrow Express if purchased online in advance, £18 if purchased at the station, £23 if purchased on the train; £4 for the Underground/Docklands Light Railway ticket (or £2.90 peak/£2.50 off-peak using an OysterCard). Getting to the Bakerloo line from Paddington involves stairs.
  3. Take the Heathrow Express as above and then take a black cab from Paddington to ExCeL. Total elapsed time: around 75 minutes. Cost: Heathrow Express ticket as above plus around £40 plus tip for the taxi.
  4. Take a black cab the whole way from Heathrow. Total elapsed time: 75-90 minutes depending on the traffic. Cost: Around £100 plus tip.
  5. Take a pre-booked minicab the whole way from Heathrow. Total elapsed time: 75-90 minutes depending on traffic. Cost: Around £50 plus tip. Most minicabs are not wheelchair accessible, but wheelchair-friendly vehicles can be booked.

From Gatwick Airport

  1. Take a First Capital Connect train from Gatwick South Terminal to London Bridge station. At London Bridge, take the Jubilee Line eastbound and then proceed as in case 1 for Heathrow. Total elapsed time: around 70 minutes. Cost: £7.90 for the train (or perhaps cheaper if purchased in advance); £4 for the Underground/Docklands Light Railway ticket (or £2.90 peak/£2.50 off-peak using an OysterCard). Getting off the train platforms involves stairs.
  2. Take a train to London Bridge as above and then a black cab from London Bridge to ExCeL. Total elapsed time: around 60-70 minutes. Cost: Train fare as above plus around £25 plus tip for the taxi.
  3. Take a taxi (not a black cab, as Gatwick is outside London) the whole way from Gatwick. Total elapsed time: 60-75 minutes depending on traffic. Cost: around £80 plus tip.
  4. Take a pre-booked minicab the whole way from Gatwick. Total elapsed time: 60-75 minutes depending on traffic. Cost: around £50-60 plus tip.

From London City Airport

  1. Take the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) towards Bank or Tower Gateway. Change at Canning Town to the DLR service towards Beckton. Get off at Custom House (for the west entrance to ExCeL) or Prince Regent (for the east entrance and International Convention Centre). Total elapsed time: 20 minutes. Cost: £4 (or £1.40 peak/£1.30 off-peak with an OysterCard). All DLR stations have lifts and level access to trains.
  2. Take a number 473 bus towards Stratford and get off at Prince Regent Bus Station, which is by the east end of ExCeL and the convention centre. Total elapsed time: 15 minutes. Cost: £2.20 (or £1.30 with an OysterCard). All London buses should have wheelchair ramps.
  3. Take a black cab. Total elapsed time: 5 minutes. Cost: around £3 plus tip. All black cabs should have wheelchair ramps.
  4. Walk to ExCeL. Total elapsed time: 20 minutes. Cost: free.

From St Pancras International Station

  1. Take the London Underground Northern Line southbound to Bank. Change at Bank to the Docklands Light Railway (any service), change at Shadwell to a Docklands Light Railway train towards Beckton and proceed as in case 1 for Heathrow. Total elapsed time: 40 minutes. Cost: £4 (or £2.90 peak/£2.50 off-peak using an OysterCard).

From Stratford International Station

  1. At present, there are no international services stopping at Stratford International. It is expected that this will change by 2014, and there is a direct Docklands Light Railway service to ExCeL taking around 20 minutes.
