Updated Supporter List

We've just updated экскурсии из Питера в Выборг and the supporter list on the website for the last time before we head off to Chicago. You can still buy memberships on the website until midnight on Friday (UK time), but they won't necessarily be included in the bid website, although of course they'll be recorded and carried forward to the convention membership list if the bid wins the site selection vote.

We now have 889 Pre-Supporters, 912 Friends, 69 Young Friends and 38 Subscribers—so we're approaching three times the previous record for the number of Friends of a bid, which we believe was 335 for the Glasgow in 2005 bid, and we still have three days at Chicon 7 in which to sign up more. Thank you to you all for supporting the bid.

The Department of Health has issued new guidelines today about the amount of exercise people should take to stay health. As you can see from their news release, they are saying adults should do 150 minutes of "moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity" every week.10.12am: As usual, I'll do a reading list this afternoon of blog posts I've read today that I think are worth recommending. If you've read something that you think I should include, please mention it in the comments. Thanks.10.30am: For the record, here are the latest YouGov GB polling figures, from yesterday's Sunday Times.

Most discussion of the immigration deal focuses on the pathway to citizenship for the currently unlawful population. But the bill would also greatly expand future immigration - and may well also perversely invite further waves of illegal immigration, since legalization comes right away but enforcement mechanisms won't be fully phased in for ten years.Yes,more workers will mean more growth. But because those additional workers are likely to be low-productivity workers, they won't generate enough growth per person to fund the services they and their descendants will consume over the years to come.

Mainly Maori towns have a subdued quality (says me) and health and education, income and crime stats all point to lower achievement. But it's not Detroit or even Tower Hamlets. This remains an unflashy society, basically decent, social democratic in tone, one which gave women the right to vote in 1893 – the first country to do so in modern times – and pioneered many social reforms. It also reversed some of them in the 80s.International studies today confirm that even self-consciously egalitarian societies such as New Zealand and France (where women got the vote in 1944) are not immune to global trends towards social and economic inequality.
Cheap Dr Dre HeadphonesIn fact few other countries in Europe were so lucky in avoiding unwanted attention of their neighbors (e.g. just over the last 100 years the Belgians were subjected to two massive invasions without the slightest provocation on their part).Somehow the Russians are puzzled why they are so disliked by Eastern Europeans. They are totally oblivious to the historic memories of Muslim peoples living on the Volga River just 400 miles east of Moscow (memories such as Ivan the Terrible’s slaughter of the entire adult population of Kazan – apparently a six digit figure) and will be mightily surprised if (when?) a serious separatist movement starts in that area. Most Russians are unaware that just a little over 150 years ago a wide swath of the modern Russian Far East (including two biggest Russian cities east of Lake Baikal) was part of the Chinese Empire – until Russia "persuaded" the Chinese to move the border following their defeat in the Second Opium War (and later occupied Manchuria and ran it as a colony).
Woolrich Outlet BolognaAs the Press Association reports, a balance of 31% of factory bosses reported that export orders were below normal in November, a slide on the balance of minus 14% seen the previous month and its lowest reading since January 2010. ? The Department for Education has revealed that the number of young people not in education, employment or training has risen to a record high of 1.16m. Stephen Twigg, the shadow education secretary, said these figures were "nothing short of shocking". ? The Office for National Statistics has revealed that net migration to Britain rose to a record 252,000 in 2010, despite the government's target to bring it down to "tens of thousands".? Michael Gove, the education secretary, has said that children do not learn enough history at school.
